EU Invests €9.3 Million in Developing CO2 Transport Infrastructure

January 27, 2019

EU Member States voted on a Commission proposal to invest almost €800 million in key European energy infrastructure projects with major cross-border benefits.

€6.5 million in funding will be allocated to a study on the development of a CO2 infrastructure in the Port of Rotterdam. The objective is to establish an open access, cross-border, carbon dioxide network in North-West Europe, with its core located in the Port of Rotterdam.

The Acorn CO2 SAPLING Transport Infrastructure Project will receive over €3 million for pre FEED studies.

CO2 SAPLING - CO2 Shipping And PipeLine Infrastructure and North Sea ReGeneration - is a CO2 transportation infrastructure project that grows and builds out from the Acorn full chain Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project. (Carbon Capture Journal)
