The Society of Petroleum Engineers plans a committee to address issues about carbon sequestration, according to an editorial by society president Abdul-Jaleel Al-Khalifa in the August Journal of Petroleum Technology.

The suggestion was made during an exploration and production industry summit held on June 28, 2007.

"I am confident that the committee on carbon sequestration will have far-reaching and ever-lasting effects on the future of our industry," he writes.

The summit recognized that SPE can serve as a credible organization to advance the science and gain attention to carbon capture and storage opportunities.
