Peterhead Plant Gets Planning Approval
Peterhead  UK

Tuesday, June 19, 2007
Article Type: Cited

The Scottish Executive has given planning approval to build a power station in Peterhead with carbon capture.

The planning application has been approved despite BP no longer having any plans to build the carbon capture power station in Peterhead.

BP cancelled its plans in May this year after learning that the UK Government was going to delay further its decision of which UK carbon capture projects to award subsidy to.

BP was keeping a lossmaking oilfield open in anticipation of being able to use it for carbon capture, and did not want to keep it open any longer.

The Scottish Executive has granted planning approval to try to signal its support for the project to BP, and also to put a finger to the UK government.
