Abu Dhabi Moves Ahead with CCS Plan
Abu Dhabi  UAE

Monday, May 07, 2007
Article Type: Cited

The government of Abu Dhabi is moving ahead with its plan to develop a national carbon capture and storage system, with a request for proposals to conduct a feasibility study sent in early February to Foster Wheeler, Technip, Parsons, SNC-Lavalin and Jacobs Engineering.
The study will identify and evaluate options for onshore and offshore carbon dioxide capture, and deliver the carbon dioxide to oil fields, where it can be used for enhanced oil recovery.
The study will identify a first possible project to be implemented, based on technical and economic feasibility.
The study will initially target the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, expected to later expand to cover the rest of the United Arab Emirates.

Abu Dhabi believes that a fully developed network could reduce United Arab Emirates total carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 40 percent, increase oil production by up to 10 percent and liberate a large amount of natural gas.
